Hi Class
By now all of you know what Quizlet is. It's a flashcard site where you can practice all t he vocabulary and spelling from class. But did you know that you can get the Quizlet app from the app store if you have an iphone. You can practice the vocabulary on your phone while on the bus or in line at Superstore or wherever you want. If you want to do that, let me know and I'll show you.
I want to tell you about my fovorite kind of pen. The name is Frixion. I like the erasable gel pens. It's a pen that erases. It's good for ESL students because your writing can look professional but you can easily correct mistakes. Sometimes writing in pencil gets smeared and looks messy. You can get the pens in different colors too. The only bad thing is that they don't last as long as a regular pen. They cost about $3. I think they are available at Walmart and I've seen them at Hallmark, which is a card store. I think they will be available in more stores in the future. I highly recommend these pens and I bought several to give to my family at Christmas.

The weather is still nice. We're lucky to have good weather and mayb it will last until the end of September. We talked about news today
Former Premier Peter Lougheed died last week. He was Alberta's premier for about 15 years starting in 1971.
There is a lockout in the National Hockey League (NHL). Canadians love hockey and they won't be able to watch NHL hockey for a while. Hopefully the players and owners will come to an agreement it won't last long. Hockey also brings income for people who work at the Coleseum, people who sell souvineers and people who work in bars and restaurants because many people watch games at a bar or go to a bar after a game.
The big condo fire in Calgary left people without their homes. Nobody was living there but many people planned to move in next month so it's a big problem for them. The police think that it was arson. Arson means that somebody set the fire on purpose.
There was a Terry Fox Run yesterday to raise money for cancer. This is the 32nd year and a lot of money has been raised. School children also take part in the run every year. Terry Fox is a famous Canadian.

Fall weather
In Alberta we talk a lot about the weather. We say " If you don't like the weather here, wait 5 minutes." We say that because the weather changes so much.
I absolutely LOVE the weather when it's like it is now. It's warm, but not too hot. The mosquitoes have disappeared. There's sometimes a bit of a breeze but it's to too windy. Because we had a lot of rain this summer, everything is so green and beautiful. I just want to stay outside all day.
On Sunday mornings I usually go walking with a group of women. We usually walk about 10 km. but today we decided to walk 15 km. in the end, we walked 18 km. I was really tired after that and I sure enjoyed my breakfast and coffee.
One of the women reminded us that it would soon get colder. I just think about how nice it is now. We could still get at least a month of really nice weather. It might get colder and then warmer. It's always a surprise in Alberta and we all hope for lot of really beautiful Fall weather.

It's a new term and Marilyn and I are teaching LINC 3 at NorQuest College. We love our new class and hope to enjoy lots of learning and fun in the next 4 months.
Here's a little about me.
LINDA
I have been married since 1978 and I live iwth my husband in the West End.
We have two sons. My older son teaches high school in Edmonton and he lives in an apartment downtown.
My younger son is a fireman and EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) in Fort McMurray which is about 5 1/2 hours by car from Edmonton. He has 2 daughters. The older one is 2 years and 3 months. The younger one is 8 months old. They also have an English Bulldog named Emma.
For exercise I go walking with some women. We walk about 10 km every Sunday and then enjoy coffee and breakfast. On Tuesdays we walk about 6-8 km and then enjoy coffee. The group walks on Thursday and sometimes I go with them.
My favorite hobby is knitting. I love creating something with my needles and yarn. If anyone wants to learn or to get some yarn and needles, just ask me. I am happy to teach anyone to knit and to provide some yarn and knitting needles.
